Is there anyway to change the default action of double-click in the Music Sources column from queing a track on the playlist to actually playing the track? I'm using Amarok 2.2.2 and Ubuntu Karmic

Not AFAIK. These are global shortcuts, try reassigning those in the System Settings -> Keyboard&Mouse -> Global Keyboard

Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

I'm not sure what you mean by global shortcuts. Double-clicking anything in nearly any app, executes either open or play. Is there another shortcut that can be used within Amarok to play a file in the Music source directly rather than having the track add to the qeue?

The feature requested in this thread is a must. When I switched from GNOME and using Banshee (best music player I have ever used), to KDE and using Amarok, I was totally confused. I realize that having something that has been double-clicked in the collection get added to the playlist is a design decision for Amarok, but there NEEDS to be a way to switch things to work the way that EVERY other music player works. I know it's personal preference, but in my opinion, the Amarok way of handling this sucks!

@JMS Now I'm a bit confused, too. Why did you change from "the best player I have ever used" to Amarok, which doesn't even honor your personal preferences?
But to topic: In my opinion, sic, double click should add tracks to the current playlist, because it's the part of the player containing the music I want to hear actually. The collection is only a container to fill my playlist. I believe that adding via double-click is more logic, than playing instantly.
But JMS, who has checked EVERY player for its behaviour on double-click, has of course more experience than me.

@Dieter
Maybe I should have wrote "EVERY POPULAR player".

And the reason I switched to Amarok is because Banshee is a GTK app, so it looks horrible in KDE, even when I skin GTK apps to look more native in KDE. Also, Banshee is based on Mono, and I don't like Microsoft :)

In my opinion, Juk is far more functional at playing music than Amarok, but Amarok is better at everything else. It's a compromise I'd rather not make, I just wish Amarok had an option to make it work the way I want it to, KDE, and Linux in general is all about options.

I've been using KDE for a while now, and only registered for the forums yesterday; so far I'm not impressed. The only responses so far have been about stupid semantics and not what I actually posted about. You have been anything but helpful. So far this thread seems to show the exact opposite attitude as the one that the KDE community wanted to portray with its recent rebrand.

Oh and markey, I actually only put two words in my post in caps, the rest of it was for things like "KDE".

As the OP, can we get back on topic please?

I've stated my opinion about double-click in collection.
If it's stupid in your opinion, who cares.
But these forums are for discussion purposes. See the title.
If you're not willing to discuss, perhaps this one's not the right place for you.
Double click as default is Gnome not KDE standard, as far as I know.

So the consensus is that this cannot be done. Correct? If that is the case, then can a MOD please close this thread? The purpose of my original question was not to discuss the merits or the value of the double-click adds to playlist feature. It was to see if it was possible to change the default double-click behavior in Amarok to a user-defined action.
