I noticed in Amarok 1.4 my collection was presented correctly but in Amarok 2.x it's screwed up.
When items are in a folder doesn't Amarok 2.x show them together? It should or there needs to be a "folder" view/option where it shows all items in a folder as belonging together in the collection list. |

If your collection is properly organized and tagged, all items in a folder *will* be displayed together. Unless you have a compilation, in which case sometimes the tracks will be shown with their artist, rather than together in Various Artists. In such cases, you'll have to right-click and choose "Show under Various Artists." This particular bit is still being developed.
If you don't have your collection organized and tagged, Amarok will make its best guess as to how you want everything displayed. Personally, I have my collection in ~/Music/Artist/Album, and have tagged everything with Picard, EasyTag, or Kid3. There is a "folder" view/option -- the Files menu. Valorie |

That's the problem. No one's collection is 100% "organized and tagged". Maybe the problem was that I imported the collection database from Amarok 1.4. How is it the 1.4 showed everything correctly and 2.x doesn't? What changed in 2.x to make it happen? Many of these are lectures and they aren't tagged consistently but it still worked in 1.4. Will try to rescan. |

What exact Amarok version are you talking about? Talking about 2.x is extremly vague and can inculde as early versions as 2.0...
There have been problems with the CollectionBrowser in the past, but Amarok 2.2.2 should have solved most if not all of them.
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I'm using Amarok Version 2.2.2 on KDE 4.4.0 on gentoo hardened. As I said I imported the collection database which could be the problem but even with new items it doesn't show them correctly. |

I set it to use an external MySQL database and fully rescanned the collection. It seems to have solved some of the problems with the collection list.

I think my problem is similar. I have huge numbers that are organised in folders, and in the Local Collection area they are listed correctly. However, I have a number of albums downloaded from Magnatune, also organised into folders on my file system, that are simply interleaved under'Unknown' in Amarok. Why has this happened? Can it be prevented? Can it be cured, other than by painstakingly identifying each individual track and allocating it to a new album label? My music is well organised, but I simply don't have the time or desire to add tags to the tracks.

Anne, the Magnatune tracks should all be tagged by default, so if those are added to the collection, a full rescan of the collection, followed by a restart of Amarok should make those show up.

Hmm, that makes it even more puzzling. These are not new downloads - they are several weeks old. I did a re-scan this afternoon, when I first noticed the problem, and I've restarted Amarok, but there are still several Magnatune downloaded albums under Unknown.

Hm, I will have to ask a developer, then. He might just not be around this weekend. Which exact Amarok version are you using?

Annew, have you considered re-downloading those albums from Magnatune? If they aren't properly tagged, you might drop a note to Magnatune informing them of the problem. Amarok relies on good tags.

@Mamarok: 2.2.2.90-1
@valoriez: I suppose that's possible. I'll try one later today to see whether it cures the problem for that one. If it does I'll continue for the rest. Thanks for the suggestion.
