Hi!
Amarok crashes on my system at startup and i don't know why. nothing (no splash screen) is shown except the crash handler window. here is the version i am using atm: Qt: 4.6.2 KDE Development Platform: 4.4.1 (KDE 4.4.1) Amarok: 2.3.0 Ubuntu karmic and here is the crash report:
doesn't seem, that anyone else has the same problem, so i think there must be a problem with my configuration. does anyone have some idea about the error? if you need more information please tell me. my favourite music player isn't working ![]() Thanks, max. |

I can say one thing from quickly looking at this backtrace:
The crash appears to be related to QtScript. Not sure what exactly is wrong, though.

try renaming the script directory as that might be the problem, it was for me

Thank you so much! Renaming solved my problem, think deleting does the trick too.

Bug reports belong in bugs.kde.org. However, your backtrace isn't helpful, because you have so few debug packages installed. If you are interested in supplying helpful backtraces, see: http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Debugging_HowTo#GDB
Perhaps a programmer will chime in here, but to me it looks like your console output would be more useful. Run Amarok in the console:
Hopefully you will be able to see which script is causing your problem. Usually it is Ultimate Lyrics -- search the forum here for that to see how to remove that. The other problem can be the Info applet -- did you happen to install that into the context area? That bug has now been fixed in git, but again, search the forum for the workaround until the next release. Or you can do as I do, and build from git daily. ![]() Valorie |

That did the trick. Thank you very much.

I had a similar crash when Amarok started, segmentation fault in libxine.o.
Background: My Kubuntu system has been through various upgrades from about 8.04 to the current 9.10 (and possibly Mandrakelinux before that) and in each case I retained my home directory and have therefore accumulated much cruft over the years. Amarok was always fine until my recent upgrade to my current KDE 4.4.1, when it always crashed on start up. Now, I could live without music on my tinny laptop speakers...until I got myself some nice Harmon Kardon Soundsticks 2 speakers last week. This made the Amarok bug critical ![]() First I tried removing ~/.kde/share/config/amarok* and ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok - which made no difference. Next, in System Settings->Multimedia->Backend I tried changing from my current Xine backend to GStreamer as an experiment. Partial success - now Amarok would start but without any the ability to play any of my MP3s. Never found out why, not particularly interested. Now I had some idea where the problem was - in Xine or with the Xine config. So, after checking my ~/.xine folder I noticed there were quite a few old files in there in the plugins folder - files dating back to 2007. Hmm, a bit suspicious, I thought. So I renamed my ~/.xine directory: mv ~/.xine ~/.xine.save ...and restarted KDE, restarted Amarok - and success! I'm back in business, Amarok starts fine and the sound plays using Xine backend. ![]() Some other information, in case it is relevant to you: - I got rid of Pulseaudio since the configuration in Skype was driving me nuts (apt-get purge pulseaudio) and appear to be none the poorer for this change. - I'm using a Sony Vaio VGN FW11E |
