CUE sheets Amarok

Wed Apr 28, 2010 8:32 pm
I use Linux and Amarok with single WAV files and CUE sheets. It works, all tracks are displayed correctly in the playlist but the last track gives an error in the time: "-43:0-23" instead of "43:23:37" (see enclosed CUE sheet). This problem occurs in all my CUE sheets. As a result the last track does not play, Amarok skips that track and moves on to the next cd in the list.
What is the problem, they all work without errors in Windows.

In the files that are paired with the CUE sheets, are the files precisely named as mentioned in the CUE sheet files?

All the CUE sheets/WAC combinations have the same problem, maybe in 1 or 2 files the names are incorrect but the others are perfect!
I ripped a CD in the same PCLINUX OS I have running using K3B (single WAV + CUE, nothing edited in the names whatsoever) and that file also has the same problem.

When using FLAC the problem is gone! I took a WAV and CUE file and converted them to FLAC and it works. Does anybody know why?

It could be caused by any number of reasons:

1) Case sensitivity
2) WAV file was not playable by your current Phonon backend
3) Bug somewhere...

Still hoping for a solution, is there any news on proper CUE support? I read somewhere about "Amarok+" that works on supporting CUE files?

From the last post in this topic:

1) Case sensitivity ..checked, all is OK
2) WAV file was not playable by your current Phonon backend..All WAV's play properly
3) Bug somewhere...a bug in Amarok then?

I tried using more than one option but the problem I have is still the same as I wrote in a previous post:
all tracks are displayed correctly in the playlist but the last track gives an error in the time: "-43:0-23" instead of "43:23:37" (see enclosed CUE sheet). This problem occurs in all my CUE sheets. I prefer APEs.
I converted all my APE songs into FlAC when I was told that Amarok did'nt support APE well last year. And that takes me more than 5 hours. To my disappointment, Amarok did'nt read cue files with FLACs.
So I spent another 5 hours converting FLACs to APEs. Then I uninstalled Amarok and listened my songs with VLC player. Perfect!

Thanks for the reply Wbprime, much obliged!

Your solution is something I do not want to do, I want to stick to WAV with CUE for several reasons.

My only reason for exploring Linux is that I am looking for an alternative for a small pc in the livingroom only used as a bitperfect audioplayer.
As long as Amarok (or any other Linux player!) is not capable of handling CUE files properly I will stick to Windows and Foobar, that works like a charm.

I am simply surprised that there is no proper support for CUE files in Linux and I do not understand what the reason for that is? What is there in Linux or in a CUE file that makes it dufficult to find a solution?

Currently CUE files can only be played if those are not in the collection. Support for CUE files in the collection is work in progress, see also https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=187587 If you subscribe to this bug you will be notified if there are changes.

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...
