Keyboard Navigation

Mon Jul 19, 2010 9:05 pm
(Kubuntu Lucid)

There are several things I like about the new Amarok, but navigating through my files seems to have gotten sticky. The view I use by default is "Files", which lets me view my collection according to my own organization.

First, the directory bar at the top (beneath playback buttons, above filter bar) by default shows a directory like this :
Media Sources>Root>Home>Music>Artist>Album
It's so cluttered! I don't remember the release of Amarok from 9.10 (2.2?) being so jumbled.

Secondly, browsing by keyboard is impossible. Once in the collection, I used to be able to type the first few letters of the folder I wanted and it would go there, and I still can, but when I hit enter to display the contents of that folder, amarok shows a blank until I manually click the folder's icon in the afformentioned messy directory.

Third, why does 2.3 insist on replaying things in their previous order. If I play song A and then several others, unless I clear the playlist every time, the next time I attempt to play song A it will automatically resume from that point in the current playlist. This is frustrating when, say, I want to give amarok a few songs to play in an order and instead I get the previous list (while the new songs I requested are appended to the bottom of said list).

Sorry, I don't use the files view often, so can't help there.

However, your situation is exactly what the queue within the playlist is designed for. If you just want one track played next, and then back to the playlist, right-click it and select Queue Track. If you want a few, select them one by one (control-click) in the order you want, then right-click and Queue Track.

You can change the order of the playlist by sorting or searching, also. Lots of possibilities there. Also look at the right-hand icon under the playlist. You can change track progression in quite a few ways.

Hope this helps,

Valorie
