As an idea - why can't amarok write a reason why tag editing is disabled? Like "Not sufficient permissions". It would help users (and thus developers) in reporting bugs.

evll, you didn't answer my questions. Can you edit the tags of those tracks in question from the collection browser and/or playlist?

Yes, I can edit them from the collection view. However once I try that from the files view, the editing of the same file from the collection view doesn't work either until I restart Amarok.

Now we're getting to some specifics! Can you please file a bug from where you are unable to edit? Help > Report Bug. Please be specific about how you encounter this bug, and upload a copy of the file/track you are unable to edit, so we can try to recreate what you are reporting.
