dragging 32 bit dir to 64 bit dir

Wed Feb 09, 2011 5:52 pm
Hi
I will be trying a 64bit KDE soon, one question though,
i've Amarok 2.3.0 (32bit) with dozens of subscribed linux podcasts in the database.

even on the QT3 Amarok i backed up my /home/.kde/share/apps/ Amarok directories
when backing up / cloning the DB,

but can i (with no ill effects) drag my 32bit /home/foo/.kde/share/apps amarok directory
back into a freshly installed 64bit KDE so all my podcasts subs are intact ?

i would just go and try it, but thought it prudent to ask first.

Thanx
Mark

Yes. There's no difference in any of the config or database files between a 32 bit and 64 bit machine. I just kept my entire home directory when I moved to 64 bit with no issues.

64bit refers to how the software interacts with your CPU, not with your hard drive. It makes no different to stuff on your hard drive.

Man is the lowest-cost, 150-pound, nonlinear, all-purpose computer system which can be mass-produced by unskilled labor.

Thankyou TheBlackCat :)

i thought the Amarok dir in my home/.kde would be 32 bit code trying to talk to 64bit code.
more research needed. the newly installed 64bit OS works superbly Thanks.
