I recently upgraded from an old version of suse with kde3-something on it to Suse 11.4 with KDE 4.6
My ipod shuffle is no longer recognized when I connect it. dmesg does note it was plugged in, but KDE's notifier doesn't seem to see it, and the device is not mounted automatically . dmsg output; usb 1-10: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5 usb 1-10: New USB device found, idVendor=05ac, idProduct=1300 usb 1-10: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 1-10: Product: iPod usb 1-10: Manufacturer: Apple usb 1-10: SerialNumber: 0**************** scsi9 : usb-storage 1-10:1.0 scsi 9:0:0:0: Direct-Access Apple iPod 2.70 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4 sd 9:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0 sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] 2037248 512-byte logical blocks: (1.04 GB/994 MiB) sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 64 00 00 08 sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sdb: sdb1 sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through sd 9:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk I can manually mount the ipod, but amarok still refuses to see it, though I can browse to the .mp3's stored on it. Please help me get this working ![]() |

A little more info:
fdisk does see the device but it still doesn't auto mount. Fdisk shows... > fdisk -l ... Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sdb1 * 46 2037247 1018601 b W95 FAT32 even if i manually mount this to /mnt/ipod kde does not see this as an IPOD. Can someone please help me get this working? |

do you have libgpod4 package installed? if not please install.
which version of Amarok? 2.4.1 is latest |

libgpod4 0.8.8-5.6.1 is installed, and I'm using Amarok 2.4.0-8.11.3 Forgive the newbi-ish question, but could fstab have something to do with not mounting the ipod? I've read conflicting posts some say ipod should be mentioned, others say there is no need. |

I don't have a iPod so my help is minimal (at best)
openSuse has 2.4.1 in the repos, I assume you're running the shipped version of KDE which is 4.6.0 (per post #1) so you'll need to dl from or add this repo http://download.opensuse.org/repositori ... SUSE_11.4/ - might help you could try querying in the Amarok irc channel |

I have checked into the amarok's irc room. They're fairly sure this is a kde problem. Something about HAL --> UDEV issue.

have you tried other apps like gtkpod or clementine?

There are known issues with iPods on KDE 4.6.0. Please update to a more recent point release (4.6.3 is current) using one of the SUSE KDE repos and try again.

If KDE won't see the ipod it doesn't matter what mp3 software you use. That said, Yes I have. You can add Banshee as well.
Upgraded, no change. the device is being seen by linux, just not kde: > lsusb Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ac:1300 Apple, Inc. iPod Shuffle |

gtkpod is not KDE based

So you're blaming that on why kde doesn't see an IPOD plugged in? Is amarok supposed to work in kde by chance? |
