No way at all is this kind of thing going to be optional. It's pointless and ugly micro-configuration if it is.

If you consider the gradient to not work with your colour scheme please attach a screenshot so I can examine the output and decide how to make it better. I spent a long time on the system making the colours adapt to even the most unpleasant schemes KDE offers, but apparently I didn't spend long enough.

I compile from cvs last saturday night, and i've got no toolbar at the bottom of the playlist (http://3mor3j.perso.cegetel.net/gradiant1.jpeg)??? and the configure toolbar dialog box is empty???
But maybe it will come backe if I re-compile ??

I agree with the choice of the two colors, it's a good idea !
Another screenshot to show that the way the tow gradient colors are chosen could be improved. Presently you cannot chose bright colors for the fonts, or lyrics are unreadable, see this screenshot.

Hi thanks for the screenshots. What this is proved to me is that using white as the 2nd colour is a bad idea, and this is something I already knew but couldn't do anything about at the time.

This is now fixed, I believe it should work even for your examples.

Also the lyrics mode didn't even exist when this feature was implemented, and still is not in any stable release, it has no background and thus requires higher contrast. Probably I'll force a background on it, the text colour is designed to be shown on the base colour and no other.

Mengele I am interested to know why you dislike it so much.

3mor3j: your toolbars will come back if you install amarok to the correct prefix, your ui.rc files are not installed or something of that ilk at least

Also making the two colours optional is not a good idea, really, it's not. Not even slightly. Never. Not at all. No.
