KDE 3.5 Qt/Mac adventure

Sat Dec 10, 2005 12:23 am
Has anyone had any success lately in compiling Amarok on a Mac using QT/Mac?
I have just tried against kde 3.5 and xine after success at compiling kdelibs with only a few minor changes.
Perhaps its the libs, but I can get Amarok to work. It just won\'t do anything useful. Actually, it ran once, the very first time, and played about 5 seconds of audio and then broke forever more.
It looks oh so promising yet oh so frustrating!

Use KDE and amaroK from the Fink repositories.

I have. Its just so frustrating to have it work for a tiny bit and then give up the ghost. Using KDE on X11 it works, but not well - the sound is jerky under high cpu load. Does this happen to you? Perhaps its xine...?

Hi khaitu,

could you please post what you had to do to compile kdelibs with Qt/Mac? If that is not too difficult I might try compiling amaroK, too. Cannot imagine that this is so hard, when you already have done KDE.

Thanks,
Martin

Hello Martin.

I finally managed it. Amarok works great under Qt/Mac! I have written up the process of installing Kdelibs. You can find it at:

Hope it helps. The Amarok process is very similar but I will write it up too at some point soon.

Hi khaitu!

Building kdelibs w/o X11 is not as easy as one might hope. Did you also get kde-3.5 from svn? I even had to edit config.h...

But now, amaroK is running. BTW, do you know of any tools that might assist in building application bundles?

Thanks a bunch for the info that building KDE w/o X is even possible - I wouldn\'t have dared to try!

Hi Martin.

Good to hear it worked for you too :)

I used the kde-3.5 tarball on the kde.org website.

About the application bundles, it took me a little while to figure them out, and even so I\'m not convinced. I will try and post the method I used, which is sort of a mix of stuff I read out there. I haven\'t posted yet becuase I have been rather occupied making a new theme for Amarok semi-inspired by Aqua.

Btw- how does it run for you? Do you have problems with Qt/Mac and mouse events? Also, does your libkhtml render png transparency properly? These are my two main problems....
