CGI Script part of Amarok?

Sat Feb 02, 2008 12:58 pm
Hi Folks,

I'm a recent Amarok user which came with the new Linux distro I use; Linux Mint 4.0 Main Edition.
I love Amarok, it's more and better than I could dream of and better than what I have used sofar  (To be honest I'm a recent Windows covert ;-))
Recently I found that a new program was installed called 'CGI Scripts'.
This was installed after a fresh OS install and OS updates and the installation of an nVidia driver (100.14).

When I asked on the Mint forum about this, I was told by one of the Mint developers that it's a dependency for Amarok and that is how I got it.
Can someone here confirm that CGI Scripts is indeed needed by or a part of Amarok?

Other users of the same Mint distro reported they didn't have 'CGI Scripts' installed so I'm somewhat confused.

Thanks and kind regards,
Pipox

The question is what this "CGI Scripts" package comprises. It's probably just an arbitrary name your distro packagers gave this package, and we can't tell what's really in it.

Amarok does depend on the Ruby scripting language, which is maybe what they mean.

Thanks for your fast reply!

When I open CGI Scripts, it opens a window.
In the top bar it says; ' Configure - KDE Control Module' and ' Paths to Local CGI Programs'.
There are a couple of menu buttons; Add , Remove , OK, Apply, Cancel, Help and Defaults.
When I click on 'Add', a new window opens with at the top; Select Folder - KDE Control Module.
That window has folders and text just like in Amarok, that's why I thought, CGI Script is a dependency for Amarok.
I have attached a screenshot with both windows, could you tell me if i'm right about the Amarok 'style' ?
And is it normal to have something like this installed if other users don't have this?
I mean, users with exactly the same OS and I presume the same updates.

Thanks and kind regards.
