Migrate WMP ratings into Amarok

Mon Aug 04, 2008 1:23 am
On my slow journey away from Windows, I have written a script to import the Windows Media Player star ratings from the ID3 tag into Amarok.

The scripts are can be downloaded from http://pastalovers.net/shared/wmp_star/versions/.

If you are very new to Linux and using Debian (like Ubuntu), you can use this by opening the command line and typing:
Code: Select all
cd /tmp
wget http://pastalovers.net/shared/wmp_star/versions/ratings_migration-v03.tar.gz
tar xzf ratings_migration-v03.tar.gz
./runme.sh

At the prompt, choose option 2 to install tree, id3v2, and Amarok.  If any of these are installed, the system will leave it alone.  Next, choose option 1.  Type the location of your music and it will do the rest.

Also, this can be set as a cronjob.  Look at the included README for more info.

This is my first time I've ever been able to offer code back to the community.  (Constructive) criticism is appreciated.
