Is there any news if it is actually possible for Amarok to read this tags and where can we find the script to properly write the tags in the mpc files?

I haven't had a chance to try this out, but would appreciate feedback about this approach. I use Kubuntu, so SoundKonverter sounds like an excellent way to write these tags. Note that the author wrote this guide awhile ago, and some of the information might be outdated.

S/he isn't aware that Amarok reads and uses replay-gain tags, for instance. SoundKonverter is in version 0.3.10-2, while the instructions are for version 0.3.6. Still, it looks very complete, and clearly written.

To follow up, this site: http://zuttobenkyou.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/adding-replay-gain-in-linux-automatically/ has some scripts to apply the tags in the command line, recursively. That might be very useful to those with large collections.

I'll make some code available on git hub tommorow (git hub is down right now)

This will be Python based, and does copy the REPLAYGAIN fields from Musepack to standard APE replaygain fields.

Still I do no manage to get amarok to use replaygain for ages so I can't test it works.

Just to bring this thread up to date, qtgain is now available in Kubuntu packages. The interface is very non-intuitive; one drags tracks, albums, artists, or I suppose, entire collections from the file manager to the Qtgain window for processing. Quoting Synaptic: "With this application you can easily replay gain your OGG-Vorbis, Flac and MP3 files."

I haven't had time to make much of a test of this app.

You need to get the two libraries also available on that hub to get in working.

I had to disable mpc support atm because Ubuntu Lucid does not support the replaygain executable.

You also need the respective format gain tools (mp3gain, vorbisgain...)

To copy the Musepack tag to std APEv2 field just use --copyapegaintotags
