Hello

Amarok included in KDE 4.3 (sorry I am not aware of the version ) is crashing on every start,

michael@akazia:~> amarok
KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing...
sock_file=/home/michael/.kde4/socket-akazia/kdeinit4__0
(8935)/: Communication problem with  "amarok" , it probably crashed.
Error message was:  "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

michael@akazia:~> amarok: Fatal IO error: client killed

I would like to add a bug report but I do not find the correct debuging pakage the kde crashreporter keeps complainng  about missinge information. WelL I added everything with amarok in the name as well as kdebase and kderun time but I am still missing one.

Can anyone pls tell me the packages? So that I can reais the crash report?

Michael

Amarok uses KDE4, but isn't part of it and KDE 4.3 isn't available yet.
You should start Amarok from console with --debug option.
Which distribution (openSUSE)? Which amarok version?
But I would say: remove $KDEHOME/share/config/amarok*

I have the same problem, OpenSuse 11.2:
Here are the last lines of amarok --debug:
<unknown program name>(14582)/: Communication problem with "amarok" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "
~/.kde/share/config> KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing...
sock_file=/home/maxim/.kde4/socket-eclipse/kdeinit4__0

Run amarok in gdb, so you can get a backtrace. What works for me is

Code: Select all
gdb amarok
(gdb) run --debug --nofork

For background information, see http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Debugging_HowTo

Please try a variation of what Dieter had suggested:

Code: Select all
rm $HOME/.kde/share/config/amarok_homerc

PS: On SUSE, it could be .kde4, instead of .kde
