Amarok "search" fields

Wed Feb 02, 2011 11:35 pm
I'd like to try to do something fairly simple (I think) that *hopefully* won't require any development other than my own. As I doubt I'm the first to encounter this situation, I hope someone may have already solved it. First some environmental details.

I'm running Amarok 2.3.0 using Ubuntu Lucid/GNOME. The music collection (80K+ tracks) is on the server which also supports SqueezeCenter for streaming to the main stereo system. The collection is made up of a mixture of OGG, FLAC, and MP3 tagged as ID3v2.4. In the Artist field I store the names as "Last, First" with a semicolon as a separator for multiple artist names (SqueezeCenter parses these correctly and shows the titles separately under each artist).

My question/problem: How do I access the Wikipedia and Lyric information for someone like "Dylan, Bob"? I can write a quickie script that will copy all of the artists to a new field (e.g. SearchName: "First Last"), but is there existing access that will let me use the new field, should I write my own function and add it to the applets, or is there another method?

TIA,
Dave
