Transcode and transfer dialog

Fri Aug 17, 2012 3:51 am
Now that the new ipod plugin is here, amarok desperately needs a transcode and transfer dialog. I think amarok 1.4.x had something like that, maybe reimplementing it? It would be nice to have a window entirely dedicated to this, with more detailed info such as estimated transfer time, a list of the songs being transferred, etc.

When you choose to copy tracks to a device, it offers transcoding options there. The user will have selected the tracks they want transferred, and a progress bar is displayed. What do you feel is missing exactly?

Well, the selection of tracks is a bit difficult since you have to go up and down the collection selecting each track you want with ctrl (In my case at least because i only copy my favorite songs, not entire albums). The problem with that is that if you forget to press ctrl and click on a song the rest is deselected and you have to start all over again. I propose a window (or applet) that contains the songs that are to be transcoded and transferred.

Also, the progress bar shows only the number of tracks that have already been transferred, but more detailed info would be appreciated. Things like current track being transcoded, transcoding progress, track being transferred and such.

You can put the files you want to transfer into the playlist instead and click and drag them onto the device you want to copy them to; you don't have to run through your whole collection ctrl+clicking.

Yeah, but you still have to modify your current playlist. I have some experience with coding, so perhaps I could try to implement it, I just need a push in the right direction. :)
