Collection browser behaviour and tag editing

Hi!

I miss two things in amarok : juk-like collection brower behaviour and the possibility to edit tag for a groups of files ( set Artist = artist to all tracks selected, by example ).
By juk-like collection browser behaviour I mean 'Click on the Artist -> playlist, doublie click -> play'. We can do this with amarok by right-clicking -> make playlist, but that's to many clicks for me ;). I made a small patch [1] to handle that.

Do you plan to support multi-tracks tag editing ?

Thanks.

Oh sorry, I just found how to edit multi tracks at the same time!

It appears you can only tag edit multiple files if you select them from the playlist, but not from the collection browser. This behavior is inconsistent, and if you ask me, non-intuitive. Should it really matter which list I select the files from?

The collection browser allows you to edit multiple tags in flat view mode, but i agree that it would be cool to do this in tree view too. For example right clicking on the Rock genre could allow me to retag all its song\'s genre to a different name, for example \'Hard Rock\' or \'Progressive Rock\'. The same could be applicable for Artists and Album.
What do you think about it ?

I think there is just one feature missing in the tag editing options, whyis it not possible to ask for the Brainz tag for a whole album?
Most of the time if you don\'t have the tag of a song, there\'s a high probability that you don\'t have the others.

I\'ve just remembered something else.
When you sort your collection by Artist>Album, it has the great idea to gather in a various artists entry the albums that are not single artists albums.
Yet it seems that when you sort by genre>artist>album, this feature seems not to work anymore (quite annoying for the soundtrack genre !).
I think that\'s an error, otherwise I think you should be able to choose in the options if you want to gather various artists albums.

thanks

I just started using Amarok a couple days ago and I have to say it\'s awesome. I\'m using the version 1.1 mandrake package.

The only major thing on my wishlist would be the ability to modify ID3 tags based on the name of the file and/or it\'s directory location.

I just finished updating a large set of tags on my music. I used Juk, because it\'s has a nifty utility where you can have it \"guess\" ID3 tags from the file name and/or directory structure based on a list of regular expressions created from the title, artist, album, track number, and directory path. If you could somehow grab this utility from Juk and get it working in Amarok, then I could get rid of Juk :)

It is true that a person shouldn\'t have to be modifying ID3 tags all that often, but it would still be very useful!

Thanks all for the awesome product!

Yes, but does it let you deal with filling in from Musicbrainz for multiple songs at once? That would be VERY useful.

It\'s not that big a deal to switch back to Juk for heavy-duty collection management, but it would be nice if I didn\'t have to.
