Loading all collection time

Mon Jan 17, 2005 9:19 pm
Hi,

I have 2300 mp3 in my collection and listen to them most of the time in random mode.

I have a small problem with how amarok handle playlist. When I want to listen to just one album, I go to \"My Collection\" and \"Make playlist\". So I have just that one album.

But, if I want to listen to all my collection again, I load my playlist on go to \"My collection\", select all and \"Make playlist\".

The time to make the playlist is approx 2 minutes and it make my hard drive crazy... I don\'t want to thrash my hard drive everytime just to load all my collection.

Is it possible to make it load instantly? One exemple of this is Rhythmbox : You want to listen an album, go to it. You want to have all the collection, go to All and it load instantly.

Something like this in future?

Thanks

Why don\'t you save the playlist?

no need for that anymore. since today, the cvs version adds songs to the playlist faster than you can look. not even doom reaches such fps rates ;-)

Thanks, it make me happy! ;)

And for the second poster, the playlist have the same problem and it\'s exactly the same disk activity than adding the collection.

I have want this because I plan purchasing an ipod, mount it with vfat and point amarok directly on it. So, I don\'t think the ipod like big disk activity like that...

heh. amarok directly supports the ipod (current cvs required). so just mount it to /mnt/ipod (important atm!) and use the media device browser to transfer files (or even play files directly from the ipod).

have fun,

Ok, if I play directly from the ipod, will it update the play count, rating, etc on the file from the ipod??

If yes, you are a clear winner in the audio for Linux. Because when I will have my ipod, I want no mp3 on my system, just on my ipod. So I want to listen to it directly.

I want to use amarok to listen to my ipod during the work day to use the audioscrobbler plugin, better interface, keyboard shortcut, etc. But I will listen directly to the ipod when I go out. So, if it update the play count and rating during the day, it will be perfect.
