Amarok should have support for more powerful visualization. I\'m not entirely sure how this would be accomplished, but support for something like ProjectM would give Amarok one of those \"killer features\" that both WMP and Itunes have.
Also, some of the automatically calculated values for how much I like a song do not come up correctly. Since I tend to set up playlists en masse (100 songs) my favorite songs actually get played and skipped through more often. When I skip the song, its rating goes down compared to those that I don\'t like as much, later down on my playlist. A simple solution to this would be to have a secondary, \"5 stars\" rating system. This system could be set to \"blend\" with the other system, with the \"stars\" rating being primary, but my \"5-star\" songs could be sorted by their automatic rating. Also, it would be incredible to see audioscrobbler add moodlogic-alike metadata to its songs. This could be a web-based system to rate the songs. Moodlogic asks questions about the rhythm, danceability, mood, tempo, and feeling of a song, and then allows you to create playlists with varying degrees of difference from the selected song. This could enhance the \"suggested tracks\" feature as well as add another level of functionality to the Audioscrobbler database. This could also be used for playlist generation, ala moodlogic. Lastly, I can\'t wait until KDE hits windows. When a media player with audioscrobbler tie-ins (Amarok) emerges for the windows operating system, the usage of Audioscrobbler will increase, also enhancing the value of their database. In this case, the same would count true for MusicBrainz, though I am of the opinion that Audioscrobbler could add some accuracy to its database by adding a file hashing mechanism for making certain the identity of a song. Perhaps, a Audioscrobbler-MusicBrainz project merge is in order? If Audioscrobbler were to do a bit of firefox-style marketing and ensure that high-quality WMP, Itunes, and Winamp plugins were available, its usage would go up, especially if it were combined with playlist generation help like found in Amarok. Even more if the playlist generation is based on metadata, like in MoodLogic. I highly encourage people who are wan to ask \"What is Moodlogic\" to get themselves to a Windows PC and give it a try. Open Source? No. Compelling? Yes. This post has become more and more speculative as it continued, but these are all things that I think would enhance the overall amarok experience for the end-user. This would count doubly for enhancing the vis support and adding a simple \"stars\" or \"1-10\" user inputted rating system, as WMP and ITunes already include these. For the Vis, reasonably high-quality fullscreen support on a wide range of systems should be the goal. For the rating system, something simple could yeild excellent results. |
