I like amarok except its playlist.
I\'ve got huge archive(about 19000 tracks)and I\'like to listen all my albums in shuffle mode. When I tried to load my playlist to amarok the program gets locked. If I became succesfull loading my playlist this time I\'ve trouble with sorting of filtering the playlist. This never be a problem in xmms or other programs in windows. I\'m nopot sure but I think amarok tries to load all the track informatins at once. It can gather track informations while we scroll the list. |

Yes...
Theproblem is when I try to create my library amarok gets locked. If it doesn\'t get lock it takes near 15-20 minutes to create my playlist, one minute to filter my list, one minute to sort my list. I don\'t thing searching 19000 entries takes too much time. Anyway I decided to use amarok not loading all my mp3 to the library. |

same here - got a large amount of music files loaded into amarok, but very slow and 99% utilization of CPU when doing shuffle with all files in playlist. ive closed *all* other programs, but X and still slow response times with all files in playlist.... i tried MySQL and SQLlite as different databases, and still same amout of response time, MySQL seems to be quicker, could be just me... looking at \'top\' info in linux, it says amarkapp is the file, not mysqld or anything taking up all the resources.. doing searches are process consuming too... here is \'top\' output during time when looking at playlist...

oh yeah... i am running slackware 10.1 / linux 2.6.10 / i686 / KDE 3.4.0 / Xorg - X Window System Version 6.8.1 / alsa as the sound... it is outputing to dmixer, dont think that is the issue... this is amarok 1.3 beta 1... anyways, wanted to say i still love the program - and continue using it all the time!

so does it help when you turn off the random mode?

I have the same issue with just over 7300 tracks however it doesn\'t take quite as long as the original poster. Random mode on or off doesn\'t matter.
I wouldn\'t say that it \"locks up\" per se, rather it just consumes 100% of my CPU and lags at building the playlist and sorting by (my preference) artist. My collection is on an NFS share on a 100baseT switched network but I doubt this is the issue (but I could be wrong). Additionally, when I sort, this cuts the track off then resumes when the sorting is complete. This seems to be in conjunction with my other issue of random tracks that start, cut out about 2-3 seconds into the track for a X seconds then kicks back in where it left off. |

BTW, this issue occurs with 1.2. I\'m now using 1.3BETA1 with the same issue.. Yea yea yea.. I know, it\'s beta.... bit still, the issue is still there.

just wanted to say - got amarok 1.3 beta 2, loaded my WHOLE mp3 library into the playlist, set it to random - and sure enough there is next to NO LAG now! gotta say thanks to the amarok developers for the work! it is 10x faster then beta 1, and way less CPU intensive. amazing work people =)

Nothing has really changed from 1.3-beta1 to 1.3-beta2 that should warrant this, I don\'t think. But, um, good.

In beta1 we had this "Stats by album" mode enabled by default. It chews up insane amounts of CPU. And there was this issue with the default analyzer, which probably just added to the lag.
