Seriously, to me this is the biggest issue with amarok usability.
The playlist browser would be so much more user-friendly if I could sort it by artist first and title second. It\'s ridiculous that I can have 100 songs by the same artist and have to search through them manually to find one. Why can\'t I order them?? |

I second that. Multicolumn sort would be a great addition to amaroK!

here is the facts
i am happy with the current scheme as it is locigally correct. Amarok does sort by multiple columns Sort by artist Each artist Is sorted by album Each album is then sorted by track number. Sort by genre Next it is sorted by Album then by track. I\'m sorry no offence intended but this suggestion is illogical, you want a specific song title yet you chose to sort by artist to find it? why? Why not just tick sort by track name? I think would be better
Sort by Artist Each artist is sorted by Year, then Album, track number and, at last, song name. |

well, it seems that there\'s a problem here
what about being able to configure the sort priority order when ordering by each field? you could choose the priority applied when ordering by artist, when ordering by year, .... i think the problem should dissapear once and for all regards  |

Everyone finds their songs in a different way.
Amarok is built on a database, so it is absolutely trivial to sort in any way possible. My suggestion would be to allow sorting on any number of parameters by priority. I personally like to sort songs by artist then title. Some people like to use artist, album, title. Others like artist, album, track number. It should be fairly easy to implement. If I get some spare time I will do it (but it may take me days considering I\'ve never seen the source code) |

Yea, its not a technical problem. Its a matter of how to present this new choice to the user that doesn\'t confuse both users who want this feature and those users who are fine with the way it is.

well, as we can see another entries at the config window (...,engine, collection, scrobbler) a great way should be adding an extra one called \"sorting\" (or similar)
a way to present it is by having firstly a check for enabling/disabling default options when you want to customize them you could use two parallel lists the 1st should have all available fields, and when you select an entry at this list you should see all attributes at the 2nd, ordered by priority so, at the 2nd list you could move them up and down in order to define their priority well, i don\'t know if it\'s the best way (sure not) but it\'s one of them hope you like it regards  |

Config window is already a mess as it is, if you haven\'t noticed.

so my way is perfect to have the new stuff far away from the current chaotic options window

Another idea is to configure the sort priority following the column order...
so, if you have, from left to right (or from right to left, in arabian countries) the columns Artist, title, album... tracks displayed will be ordered by Artist, then by title, then by album... (ecc) and moving tigle column in left-most position will re-order traks by title, then artist, album... in this way you don\'t need YAChaoticOptionsWindow |

Times passed by and nothing has changed?
Hello, is it possible, to manage the prioroties of sorting the music? I also don't like the sorting first by interpret and than by album. I would be thankful to set the sorting priorities by myself thanks |

sorry to dig this thread, but this is the only thing I'm missing in Amarok. If I may suggest, I would like it to/think it should be same philosophy as 'group by' pop menu for collections - to have:
* sort by column (user is setting manual sorting clicking on columns, kust like we do now, should be default option) * few predefined sortings (like in group by) * and manually sorting menus for different leves (like in group by) It could be situated in the same height level as button for group by pop-up menu, just above playlist, right next to playlist search. |
