iPod Podcasting

Wed Aug 10, 2005 7:18 am
I was wondering if amarok supports the new iPod firmware that supports podcasts? I use it a lot for work (I do lots of driving in areas where the only radio is country music, so I like to get my news fix, npr, etc via podcasts) and would love to not have to use iTunes to do this.

if not, is it possible?

the iPod code hasn\'t seen any development since then, so I guess not.

Hi Steve,

How much has the ipod firmware changed? As podcasts are just simple mp3 files do they need a special API call to get them on the ipod? I don\'t actually have an ipod so can\'t say either way but I would have thought you could just add podcasts to the ipod like you add other tracks?

well, they added a menu item on the ipod for podcasts, and obviously, they don\'t get included in the all tracks Shuffle mode. other than that I don\'t think they did any other changes, i don\'t think they even do the bookmarking thing like audiobooks.

I also don\' know what iTunes/iPod does as far as how it handles the actual mp3s, if it sets the genre to \"podcast\" or a seperate tag, etc?

if I can help you figure this out in anyway let me know.

Ok, from what I can see, by having the Genre set to Podcast, the iPod will place it in the Podcast list.
The list uses Album as the Podcast name, Title as that episodes Title information, and Artist as the creator.

I\'m gunna play with this and verify.

Once I do figure it out, where would be the best place to post this as a feature request?

Thanks,
Steve
