the player that will never be

amarok has claimed to fame amongst its small music base of listeners. The player that could have been but will never be. Lacking the vision of any small project, amarok is built for the developer and others wish they could be. For the rest of all pc users amarok will never be a real player that people can or ever will use. Kaffeine has taken a better approach than this development team. The only reason why any Linux user says this program rocks is because it is the only music app that looks halfway decent, and because they are all advanced computer users that spend too much time on the computer. Always having to every little function in all of their programs. Being a successful business man, I know where you developers have your flaw. It is your lack of the art of negotiation. I negotiate everyday. I don’t always win, I never win. You can\'t win. That is why it is called negotiation. You get as much as you can so that both parties can feel like they got a deal. In your case your player is only aimed at one direction. Your direction. Why haven’t you aimed at windows users? Because you aren’t a windows user. Why haven’t you made your player with ease of use? Because your complex. With free software you don’t truly grow because your livelihood isn’t at stake. It’s a hobby for you. With proprietary software you better sale, or else you don’t make money. Proprietary companies have to change their software so that the most amount of people will buy it. You know you succeeded with proprietary software when a lot of people do buy your product. See, it\'s not what the developer or complex and advanced users want. It’s what the majority wants. You complain too much on your forum about everybody telling you what to do. You’re a developer and people are moochers. Everybody wants everything for free. Deal with it and have fun with your project. Develop like your life depends on it. Try someway to make money with this. You should be rewarded for your efforts.

A business man you may be, but a english major, you are not.

Dude, use paragraphs.

In other news, its FOSS, developers develop on their own time to satisfy their own needs. These own needs are then shared with the world, why the hell do you expect developers to go out of their way to install a piece of **** operating system just so you can use it to negotiate (read brown-nose) and troll?

Do not complain unless you are willing to contribute.

That is all.

Didn\'t you see the title "the player that will never be". Sounds like a fable or something. Victor Hugo had a long sentence, laura has a long paragraph. Its pure literature!

Hmm, what to say about this one.

First, I have a hard time believing this successful businessman thing. Obviously a successful businessman would be a little more organized, unlike your text.

\"Lacking the vision of any small project\"

I\'m not sure what this is supposed to mean, but it seems like we are doing just fine thanks.

\"For the rest of all pc users amarok will never be a real player that people can or ever will use\"

Obviously you don\'t subscribe to our mailing list. Dig through the devel list archives, you might be surprised by the number of windows converts.

\"Being a successful business man, I know where you developers have your flaw. It is your lack of the art of negotiation.\"

Again, do your research. Strike two against me believing this whole successful businessman, since most successful people actually do there research. Oh, and they also use a spell checker.

The rest of this post is pure rubbish imho. Most of us have full time jobs, or are full time students. We do this because the end result is our reward. Not everything can be measured in dollars. You \"successful\" types should really learn about how to enjoy the things you do, not just how many dollars one can make. Sure, if we make some money in the process it would be a good thing, but I\'m not losing any sleep if we don\'t.

i was perfectly happy using windows until i was told about an awesome music app called amarok that was absolutely perfect for managing my large collection of music. i decided to investigate and after seeing a few screenshots instantly decided that i needed to check out this program. i downloaded a distro of linux and decided to have a little play around in it. i\'ve hardly ever used windows since (except on computers at work/school).

the thing i love about amarok is that the devs add so much to the software! rather than settling for something half-assed they think \"hey, let\'s add this feature and see how it works\".

amarok does EVERYTHING i need. back when i used windows i needed multiple programs which each specialised in specific areas, and none of which had a decent collection management system. amarok is also incredibly well layed out, laura made a comment about amarok being difficult to use... i couldnt disagree more! every feature i want to use is exactly where i\'d expect it! maybe it helps that im running a high resolution and can keep the main window maximised, letting me see everything clearly. :P

my point is this...

Laura is wrong. amarok is absolutely awesome, you guys rock. keep up the good work! B)

Thanks SomethingGood. After insanity told us about laura\'s post the night, the developers, along with myself, considdered committing mass suicide, we were not quite sure what we would be able to do if someone thought bad of amaroK, after long councilling sessions with amaroK himself, we decided to put it off exactly eighteen hours, your post has changed our mind, with only ten minutes to spare!
