Search Functions

Tue Apr 25, 2006 3:48 pm
One of the best features of Amarok (IMO) is the free text search that is buried under the \'files\' tab in a not too noticable pop up at the bottom of the tab. I like this feature as it suits the way I like to use amarok. Oftentimes my friends and I will sit about and listen to tunes, more often than not random and the skip button is enough but sometimes we also want to drop in specific tunes or follow certain themes of covers artists etc, not all of my collection is very well tagged :-( free text searches work well for this. Maybe I am doing something wrong but this lne search seems to work differently from the other search boxes in Amarok?

I have a couple of useability observations I\'d like to chime in if that\'s ok?

Honestly, this is the best search but I can see a couple of drawbacks (I\'ve been watching the kind of pickles my ludite, windows and mac using friends get themselves in to when they try and use amarok ;

1. you can\'t make the search and response box big enough, it only rolls up to a about a third of the way of the tab.

2. I know this is really dumb but a lot of people don\'t seem to understand \'tree view\' if there could be a folder view popup for the \'search in\' element to control where one is searching

3. I have a friend who is so impatient if he thinks of a tune he wants to hear he will try and download rather than looking for and playing the version I own and is on my computer already(!) short of removing his privleges is there a way of flaggin up to him that a song already exists on the machine (I understand I should probably be aiming this request to the Apollon folk but some integration Would be lovely!

Cheers
Marc
