Why does amarok change my icons upon installing a new version? They're just butt ugly (well, the control buttons (play, forward, back, stop) the others are ok-ish I think.
Edit: I've just used amarok on xubuntu and while it is a good thing there to have its own iconset (since there are no kde-icons in xubuntu) on a non kde-environment wouldn't it be possible to detect if KDE is running and change its behavior? It seems that only the kde people are complaining about the default change of icons.

Maybe i'd tell you if your face wasn't butt ugly!
Err.. just go to settings > configure > appearance and uncheck the icon box. |

I know that, but do I have to change them every time I reinstall a new version of amarok??? :S
Edit: programs fiddling with general settings are more than irritating. So it is more than logic that people react irritated

Hello everyone. I just registered.
I hate to complain in my first post, but is it possible for future versions of Amarok to have customizable icon themes ? So you can just download packed icons from the web and install them in Amarok ? I don't like the default new icon set that much to be honest

Why wouldn't you then switch them off and use the KDE ones. And them you can change easily (and replace with new ones from kde-look.org)

First of all you can already switch back to your system icon theme: Check the "Appearance" page in the settings dialog. Second, the theme is still being improved, we hope to have it pimped a little in time for 1.4.2.

I know this is possible, but this changes the icons everywhere. This might not be the behaviour some people want. It can't be hard to make an icon chooser (A simple icon chooser would give a listbox with all directories in a directory named icons and then the only thing that has to happen is point to another directory with icons when you choose another icon set) or am I wrong on this one?

Hi,
huuuh, an icon chooser for amarok? Plus skins? Like Barbie? W.t.f.? But seriously, the default iconset isn't user friendly. My opinion, but i'm a little bit dumb. I've to wait for the tooltip, explaining me the function of the two arrows at the bottom. Icons should be self-explaining. So something with a circle would be nice for repeat mode and the dices for random mode. Just a suggestion, no complaining. P.S Amarok 1.4.1 from svn works great (but the covers are still scaled up from ) Gre(at work)eting m0nk

It was just a suggestion. No need to get so scary with barbie
If I created a patch for the options menu, so you could install/use other iconsets, would you take it or are you 100% against custom icons ? (If you are 100% against custom icons, then I really don't understand why the default KDE icons aren't satisfying, or is this because Amarok is becoming less KDE centered ?)

Apt-get Amarok on a Debian Sarge box sometime without other KDE packages. It looks horrible, tons of missing icons. Thats the reason we have a custom icon set.

I understand, but why "one style for all" ?
although I suppose it's pretty easy to just change the icons by overriding "/usr/share/apps/amarok/icons/hicolor"

The main thing holding this back?
No one wants to take the time to create icon sets for Amarok. Do you have ANY idea how long it took to get one complete set done? There are quite a number of icons that would need to be drawn. Drop into #amarok on irc.freenode.net sometime, and ask about amarok artwork. And of course, trying to be less KDE-centric is another good reason for custom icon sets
