All-in-one player?

Wed Oct 18, 2006 5:36 pm
Are there any plans to make amarok an all in one media player which can play/view and transfer videos and photos to portable media devices too? It would be nice to have one program for all of my media needs rather than using amarok to play and transfer music, totem to play videos, various programs to convert them, gtkpod to transfer them to my iPod, gimp to view and convert pictures and photos and gtkpod again to transfer them.

The next feature on our TODO is an integrated email client.

And what about built-in coffee-making? I don't like to have to stand up and go to the kitchen, just to get a cup of coffee ;-)

Surely a video player wouldn't be too hard to add in - you could just copy some code from kaffeine, couldn't you?

A WYSIWYG webpage editor is a *must* as well... I'm constantly surprised by how often I feel the urge to whip up something new while I have amarok running.

And it would be SO much more efficient to have everything in one monster app rather than taking advantage of apps other people have written - after all, the amarok touch is what makes it all so special.

Okay seriously... A videoplayer shouldn't be too hard to implement.
And with the upcoming of videoplayback-able MP3-Players (New iPod, Zen Vision, etc) it would really be a useful feature.
Xine itself, which most of us are using for playback, does play videos, right? So it should be easy to extend amarok with video-features.
Of course the collection had to be re-done, you would need a Music / Video - Seperation.

It's the last little throwaway line that really points to the crux of the argument...

Just redo the collection stuff...

Ugh...you guys could just integrate a kaffeine tab that wraps the kaffeine gui into amarok, haha...
...then everybody would be happy...except me!  ;)

Would be great to have different collections for Video, Music, Audiobooks, etc... I posted this not only once in this forum... I think it would be a superior extension for amarok, to have more than one collection...
