Mp3Pro support??

Tue Nov 28, 2006 7:56 am
I'm new to Amarok and
I'd really want to know if Amarok plays Mp3Pro..

Its the only thing that would finish my Linux migration..

So, is there some way that I'd be able to play mp3pro  in it?

A quick google seems to indicate that there's not much in Linux about mp3pro support. I do not know much about mp3pro. Have you just tried if e.g. xine plays mp3pro?
To get mp3pro into amarok, you need two things:
(1) An engine (currently helix or xine) that can play mp3pro files
(2) taglib must be able to read the tags (not sure what they use, maybe ID3?)

AFAIK, mp3pro is backwards-compatible with mp3, so even if xine doesn't support it (wether or not I don't know), it should play it just fine.
