Exclude folders from Collection

Wed Dec 13, 2006 1:03 pm
I don't know if this is already a feature in the new version, but I'm using Amarok 1.4.3.

When you select folders to monitor your collection, all subfolders automatically get select and you can't deselect any of them. I had a folder within my main music folder which I use to manage music for my cell phone, and it has copies of the usual music files. So, Amarok added these duplicates to my collection as well. I just wish there was an easier way... that is, to be able to deselct certain subfolders from the main selected folder(s) for scanning for the collection.

You can if you unselect one of the options below. (Check box)

Oh yeah the "Scan folders recursively" option. It's working is not obvious, you have to keep checking/unchecking it each time you want to select an entire folder, and then deselct one subfolder. Well, it does it's job anyway.

Thanks.

You are welcome. I agree with you that it isn't optimal when you want to e.g. unselect certain subfolders in a folder.

I've thought of a solution, but don't know how good it is:
A new type of checkboxes.
Clicking once, it becomes checked and the folder is selected but not the subfolders.
Click on the checkbox again a it's "filled" (or something like this; there is suck a checkbox in Windows XP I believe).  All the subfolders are selected. If you unselect a subfolder, the checkbox becomes checked instead of filled.
If the checkbox is filled and you click on it, it becomes empty and the folder and subfolders are unselected.

Using this approach, some problems appear. I am no usability expert (rather the opposite), but I believe that sometimes you have to click more if this change were made. Also, the option "Scan folders recursively", should we keep it?
And finally, I don't think KDE supports "filled" checkboxes.

So yeah, my solution isn't the best. Neither is the current one. Maybe someone could think of a better  way?

Let me revive this old thread. I would really like to be able to exclude some folders from the Collection, while keeping the recursion option active. That way, newly added folders are always added, but a couple of permament folders that contain transient or temporary files do not get scanned. I believe it would be relatively easy to implement such a feature.

By the way, I'm new here and I would like to thank the Amarok devs for their gret work!
