I have written a proposal for a new playlist view on the Amarok Wiki, complete with Mock-up. I would be interested to see what you think of the idea.

Yup, it's pretty cool. But, erm, proposal is for Amarok 4.0? 2.0 development has just started... o.O

How would it look in the situation where you had an album with various artists (or composers). i.e. Different artist/composer on each song?

You know what I think would be cool?
When an album is "expanded", show the album cover to the left. Something like http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=38830

The playlist view admittedly does not accommodate such albums very well, and this information (artist/composer) would be missing and only available though mouseover for each particular track. The row for such albums in the playlist would put "various" under each of these fields. I do not consider this much of a problem though, as the playlist view isn't intended for such albums anyway, but for people who primarily listen to whole works (i.e true albums) rather than a mixture of different tracks / singles as you would find on a compilation album. The old playlist view, would of course still be available.
Yea, that's a pretty neat idea, see my updated screenshot http://amarok.kde.org/wiki/Alternative_Playlist_View |

Looks very nice. What would you say about a mouse over which would trigger the album art to appear in a smooth fade-in.

I have no strong feelings against the idea, but fail to see why this would be preferable to always showing the album art? |

I really love this playlist view. Any idea if it'll ever be implemented?

I love Amarok... but one of the things I miss about windows (and Foobar, in particular) is the option to customize my playlist display:
Take a look at: http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8669/fooniner7ku.jpg The idea is that you can define as many columns as you like, and use the tags (like %track, %album, etc) wherever you like... AND you can set some rules like: if the track is not the first one in the album, don't show the album's name. When you are not organicing your playlist as complete albums, you should have an option to go back to the "regular" display. |

I think it looks really nice. You could also leave the option to use the old view if people want the old one.
I really like the idea of being able to see the album art as I want to know what albums still need the album art. Could you also include an option expand/collapse all? I think that would be great for me. Thanks, Erudite (Josh) |

Hi,
I miss the olf playlist, too. The new playlist is nice, you're listening to complete albums, but if there is only one song per album the new playlist isn't good to handle. Marco |
