I haven't checked how it's implemented or anything, but I really feel it'd be good to be able to see collection while it is being created/updated. Take this example

John has an external hard drive with most of his music, but keeps it shut down most of the time.
He starts Amarok in order to listen to the artist Bob Dylan.
He now only sees his music on his internal hard drive, but not Bob Dylan, and thus selects to rescan his collection to get the stuff on his external hd to show up also.
He has to wait for the entire (maybe 50 gig) collection to be scanned before he can listen to what he wants.
After the rescan is done, he loads Bob Dylan and listens to it.

Or

He just wants to start listening to any music, and all is on an external drive.

Wouldn't it just be great to see how the collection is getting more and more stuff in it while it's being updated instead of having to wait till it finishes. This could be instantly (possibly not good, as browsing the ever changing structure can be hard) or every n (say 5) seconds scanned media is shown.

In addition to this, I think the whole idea of having to wait for a big collection to be rescanned before it appears in the collection is bad - maybe this is just me but wouldn't it be great if Amarok "knew" I had music somewhere, but that drive is just not mounted. So, when I mount it it appears instantly and just updates in the background without a complete rescan. This way you could possibly also search your unmounted media for music you know you have somewhere.

Ooh.. brainstorming - what if you had your stuff on cd/dvd discs? Could Amarok be your app for searching for that one song you have somewhere on all those discs? This requires being able to switch between searching unmounted/mounted media and having a collection with both of these side-by-side.


Some bugs I haven't checked that exists in the bug tracing system/reported there yet/checked completely:
- When playing a song from a mounted media and you unmount the media while playing a song from it, Amarok can crash
- When playing with unmounting and mounting several medias, Amarok can crash when updating the collection if we are in this situation (not completely checked to be true yet - be sceptic)
1. Media A is mounted, media B is not. Amarok's collection is created
2. Media A is unmounted, Media B is mounted. Amarok's collection is rescanned.
Or something similar.. haven't submitted this yet, nor checked it - updating my collection takes soo long...
