I currently use linux and amarok on my laptop with a network drive mounted over wifi and generally makes up my collection. However, I'm interested in adding a portion of that music to my laptop for times I am away from home. Problem is that amarok now has two copies of everything I put on my laptop. Is there an easy (and quick) way to select either all the music on my laptop OR the network only as my collection?
I know I could simply just select and unselect the folders I use, but my music collection is fairly large and rescans take at least 15 minutes. |

I second this request, but I don't think multiple collections are the solution. I have old radio transcripts, 78 RPM vinyl, sound effects and other oddities I've collected over the years. its still only one collection, but the different Items need a field to distinguish them.
I suggest improved collection filtering. I assume the db holds all the information displayed in the playlist headers, correct? Then what prevents the playlist being built by filtering on these fields? I admit I'm a new user, so maybe this is already possible? If so, can someone put me on the clue trail? Thanks to the dev's for the best music collection app. around, Steve |

Having different folders differently configurable would help, for instance a local folder could be set to have "watch folders for changes" set whilst a remote folder would have it unset. otherwise amorak has a habit of presuming all the files have been deleted and removing them from the collection if the remote source is not connected, focing a rescan. An option to update it when connected would probably be required to pick up anything added when the source was disconnected.
This may be solved by having an "ignore empty folders when watching for changes", option that doesn't apply when doing a rescan. It would also be useful to have tracks only avaiable from unconnected sources either greyed out or not appear in the collection viewer. Whether a source was local or networked/removable would I presume have to be user selected since it could be difficult for amarok to tell. An option to ignore duplicates would solve the double listing issue, with preference given to local sources. Thanks for a wonderful piee of software. |
