Shoutcast sorting

Mon Jun 25, 2007 8:27 pm
Hi,
I'm using Amarok for listening to  radio streams of France. It's rather difficult! If you use Shoutcast with f.e. Noxon of Terratec, you have a hierarchy starting with countries and languages, kind of music or politics, etc. You can search an internet radio including all streams in the list. And you can get the actual list of Shoutcast automatically with the player!

My questions:
- Is it possibile to sort the Shoutcast streams different?
- where can I get the actual list of Shoutcast? The complete one(5000 or more)?!
- are there more plugins for amarok to be able to listen different stream formats?

Does anybody know how I can select a stream without looking at all directories?

I'm not sure what you mean, but Amarok >= 1.4.5 has a built-in Shoutcast browser, located in the Playlists tab on the left side. It's quite comfortable and should suit your needs. All Shoutcast streams are accessible there.

I use Amarok 1.4.6. Yes, there is a socalled browser, consisting of 6 tabs which can be turned on and off. If you select playlists, you can see the different playlists available in amarok.
One of them is radio streams.
When I select that tab, I can see two different lists of radio streams. I select Shoutcast

and there starts the problem!
The representation of the streamlist of Shoutcast is handled by alphabetically ordered directories  representing different categories of radio streams.
Each category contains streams of different countries, different languages and different stream formats.

If  I want to find streams of America, in french of techno streams it is practically impossible. I would have to search in each directory because streams are put in directories. That's to say, the directory techno contains techno streams, americana, caribbean, etc too. And only a few of them in french!

If I start with french i get a directory called francais representing streams of France but not of caribbean islands and I have to search different directories which may contain streams of these islands.

The structure of the Shoutcast list has been linearized (pardon my english!) almost completely.
The original list of Shoutcast is differently organized to suit effectively to find something!

It's possible that the original list doesn't have any order and the noxon and other media players and software packages have the same firmware (software)
which produce the same hierarchy which makes it simple to find what you are looking for.
In that case Amarok should do it the same way. Why invent sometning less effective!
