This request is for a change to the feature for designating the folder(s) where your collection resides. My "music" folder includes about 500 subfolders. 80% of those are my music, the rest belong to my family. When I check the music folder for my collection, I would like for checking the music folder to also check all the subfolders. Then I could just uncheck the 20% I don't want rather than spend 30 minutes selecting folders. Thanks.

Uhm.. simply enable the "Scan Folders Recursively" option.

Uhm...please read the post. Scanning the top level "music" folder recursively would include all subfolders. I am looking for a quick and convenient way to deselect a few of the subfolders.

Or you could organise your music so that each family member has their own dir, under which they can do what they like... then just don't add those directories. Or use smart playlists to exclude music by path.
My point is, that there are ways to use amarok that mimic what you want without requesting coding changes - which would be extremely unlikely to happen before 2.0 is released anyway.

What I am suggesting is that when you check (select) a folder for your collection, it check (select) all of the subfolders. Then you could go in and uncheck (deselect) the unwanted subfolders. To be clear, I am not advocating this feature for 2.0, I am simply saying that this feature would improve Amarok's usability for me.

sweetheart, I merely offered some alternatives for you to consider in the meantime. No need to get your knickers in a twist. Personally, I think it would be useful sometimes, but I also like the current behaviour. I can load our entire music collection in, including the metal **** my husband listens to, and I never have to listen to it, because it doesn't appear in my playlist unless I do an entire collection random mix.

The "finding a particular artist" excuse is lame - there's a very fast filter bar that does just that.

You can already abuse the dialog to do this.

1) enable folder recursivly
2) check the top level folder.
3) disable enable folders recursivly.
4) expand top item, uncheck sub items.

Dan, thanks, that did the trick.

*** Update, it only appeared to work. As happens, for some reason Amarok ate my collection and I needed to go into settings to select again. I tried this trick and it appeared to work, however, when I rescan my collection, I only end up with one album/folder.
