Bigger Progress Bar

Fri Oct 26, 2007 1:31 am
I installed Amarok on Ubuntu Gutsy yesterday, and, as an anal-retentive audiophile, I've been quite pleased with it so far. However, the progress bar placement and size is discouraging. That's my only real complaint.

One bonus of a lot of minimal players like WMP is the hefty and prominent progress bar that stretches all the way across the window. A window-wide progress bar allows a lot of control over where when you are in the audio, whereas a smaller bar takes away some of that control and just feels less comfortable.

I worked in radio for years spending countless hours screening audio for dirty words and such, and a nice big progress bar is almost essential for that kind of thing. A bigger bar is also nice for audiobooks... Speaking of audiobooks, when is someone going to make a bookmark cue funciton for an audio player?

Amarok2 is going to feature a nicer progress bar, you can find some early screenshots in the Amarok blog.

A feature to add and manage custom "bookmarks" on the new, much larger, progress bar is actually planned. A prototype was actually implemented, but it was recently removed from the codebase as it was suffering from significant bitrot due to the fast progress of many core components of Amarok2. The developer responcible has plans to reintroduce it at a later date.
