Having recently searched the web for a media player suitable for audiobooks finding nothing, I turn to my favourite player, Amarok, in hope that something might show up.
Now, one might wonder, is so special with audiobooks? Well, not much, they are usually ordinary mp3's or can be made into them. What's special is some features that will greatly enhance how you listen to them: * Bookmarks. With music, there is no real need to come back later and start at the same point. With audiobooks, it's almost necessary. This needs to be carried between sessions and needs to work even if you played something else between sessions. * Skips. Hotkeys to skip back ten seconds at the time, and then go back to the point you started skipping from (in other words, the point longest into the file that has been played). Sometimes you miss something and want to go back. * Annotations. Not as necessary, but sometimes it's handy to make notes. The two first shouldn't be that hard to fit into the framework, the last is probably a bit harder, although by no means rocket science. The last is probably also a bit out of the scope of Amarok. I would, however, love an Amarok with bookmarks and skips even more than I love it today. |
