I know there's a work around to this by entering some code somewhere, but that's not what I want to be doing.  I want to be able to choose between what Amarok currently does which is to queue each track in my collection ready to play after the current track (which I think is a great idea), but most of the time when I click a track in the collection I just want it to play straight away, like a normal media player.

So something to easily be able to tick an option somewhere giving me the choice when I need it.

Simply press Stop before adding stuff to the playlist. Solves the problem.

Hi Mark,

yes that does sort of solve the problem but it's still an extra function that needs to take place. It would be so much simpler to just click the track and have it play, rather than having to stop the track then click the new track, or click the track then have to press the forward button.

I know it's just one extra button to press, but I also use amarok to play mp3s off a record store on-line spending a lot of time flicking from one track to next and because amarok doesn't automatically switch to the next track when I click it I'm having to keep going into amarok to forward to the next track then go back to the website to click the next track, which can become extremely tedious when you previewing 20 to 30 tracks.

learn about global hotkeys ;) Then you can switch to the next track while browsing the store.

Thanks dangle_wtf for your suggestion I will look into that; though it is still an extra function that I could do without.

I tend to audition a lot of music each day, listening to some tracks for no more than a few seconds before I move on to the next, so even with keyboard shortcuts it can be too much.  Hopefully this is something that can be addressed in a future version of Amarok with a simple option to choose between what it currently does and having the track play when it gets clicked, as I think that Amarok is by far the best media player out there right now and would like to continue using it.

Mate, Amarok's neural interface won't be up and running until at least 2.3, so until then, global hotkeys are probably the solution that will involve the least physical activity on your part.
