Yes, i know - it's kool to just pop out result while the user is typing, BUT it slows down the whole search proces on bigger libraries... Is there a secret option which makes amarok search ONLY if enter is pressed in the search field?

Nope But with really huge collections switching to MySQL might improve performance.

You think it would be a big problem to add such option? Or at least start searching on some reasonable characters given (3?). Or let people "click" what they prefer?

ps. planning to switch to pg or mysql..
