I'm using Gnome Mandriva 2009 and have a Creative Zen Plus 2GB high Speed USB MP3 player. In XP it requires a CD to be installed to access it.
I used Install/Remove software in Mandriva to install Amarok Version 1.98 KDE 4.1.3 Amorok detected the MP3 Player but will only allow me to enter a folder and delete one song at a time. And with 2GB of songs I need an easier way such as select all with shift key and delete. So I booted into XP to delete all the music and returned to Mandriva with an empty MP3 player. Now I am not allowed to add songs. I cant even drag and drop. Amarok still detected the player but there is NO Option to add a song. Drag and drop doesn't work. In the left payne it shows my player. In the center payne it shows a picture of my player with a green plus sign and a red cross. Clicking on any of these does nothing. Right click only gives Add Applet or Remove this Media Device. Drag and drop to this centre payne does not work. I can drag and drop to the right payne which adds to the playlist, but I want to put music onto my MP3 player. I wanted to mount the device so Mandriva detects it like a USB drive but don't know how to do this so I followed the instructions on the following link. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions ... er-395072/ As root I typed in modprobe sd_mod I had no errors then typed in dmesg | tail I got this [david@localhost ~]$ su root Password: [root@localhost david]# modprobe sd_mod [root@localhost david]# dmesg | tail usb 1-8: Manufacturer: Creative Technology Ltd usb 1-8: SerialNumber: D5928C9A4003001C usb 1-8: USB disconnect, address 4 usb 1-8: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 5 usb 1-8: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice usb 1-8: New USB device found, idVendor=041e, idProduct=4152 usb 1-8: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3 usb 1-8: Product: Creative Zen V Plus usb 1-8: Manufacturer: Creative Technology Ltd usb 1-8: SerialNumber: D5928C9A4003001C I was excited to see it had detected my Creative Zen high speed USB device. To see devices I used fdisk -l [root@localhost david]# fdisk -l Disk /dev/sda: 250.0 GB, 250059350016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 30401 cylinders Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes Disk identifier: 0xdd04d0e4 Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 3865 31045581 7 HPFS/NTFS /dev/sda2 3866 30401 213150420 5 Extended /dev/sda5 3866 4884 8185086 83 Linux /dev/sda6 4885 5393 4088511 82 Linux swap / Solaris /dev/sda7 5394 30401 200876728+ 83 Linux [root@localhost david]# The Creative MP3 Player does not appear to be listed. In Mandriva in the menu is System Tools Configure your Computer. In the hardware tab is Browse and Configure Hardware. Listed as Unknown/Others is Creative Zen V Plus Here are the details: Identification Vendor: Creative Technology Ltd Description: Creative Zen V Plus Media class: (Defined at Interface level) Connection Bus: USB Bus PCI #: 1 PCI device #: 5 Vendor ID: 0x041e Device ID: 0x4152 Sub vendor ID: 0x0000 Sub device ID: 0x0000 Misc Module: usbfs So Mandriva knows it is there and what it is. So how do we get it to mount? Is there a plugin I need to add to Amorok or is there a newer version. Or is there a program better than Amorok that will also communicate with the device but allow drag drop or add remove multiple MP3 files? Rythymbox Music Player, Totem Movie Player, Real Player 11, Audacity, and XMMS do not detect it. Can anyone help!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Do the developers of Amarok read these posts. Anyone out there got any ideas how to fix Amarok to include MTP MP3 players?

It doesn't sound like specifically an Amarok problem, as far as I can tell.
Have you tried gnomad2? If that doesn't see it, I'd check whether the device is supported by the version of libmtp you have, and then check whether the Amarok package provided by mandriva has been built with mtp support. The fact you can't get it to work with rhythmbox either would indicate the problem probably exists at a lower level than the application. The fact that mandriva can see it only means that a probe of the usb device at a low level has returned some information.
