Automatic playback

Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:09 am
No, this isn't a request to add automatic playback, this is a request to remove automatic playback. In Amarok 2.1.1, if I load a playlist or add some music, Amarok starts playing the first track it encounters all by itself. There is no option to turn this behaviour off, and I don't see how it makes any sense. Just because I've loaded a playlist or added some music, doesn't necessarily mean I want to start playing that music NOW, and it certainly doesn't mean the first track is automatically the one I want to hear. Amarok 1.4 didn't do this, and this should be an option so I stop startling myself every time I load a new playlist.

If this has been fixed in Amarok 2.2 SVN, then forgive me for being redundant, but I don't actually use that.

What about 'Settings --> Configure Amarok --> Playback --> Resume playback on start'?

There was some weirdness in that area leading up to the 2.0 release, but since the 2.0 release I have not really seen that Amarok starts to play when you load or add tracks to a playlist, so maybe controlled by the same option? Don't know why it would start to play when tracks are added to an existing playlist, but if the 'Resume playback on start' option is also used to control auto-playback when a playlist is loaded I would suggest a better wording to be something along the lines of 'Start playback on playlist load' and that this option should be available on the playlist menu.

I'm at work at the moment or I would have played around with it a little before responding.

Later, Seeker
