hello, i have been an amarok user for some time.
it really is a great software. i would like to give some suggestions to improve the usability of the 2.x series. there are plenty of changes that could help improve amarok, but i will only list those which are really easy (in my opinion) to be made. im using Amarok Version 2.2.0, KDE 4.3.1. here we go: 1) i heavily use amarok shortcuts, but i noticed there is an important one missing: the 'play' shortcut. it seems to have been merged with 'pause' i don't have anything against that, but i think a separate shortcut for play should be provided also: actually there is no shortcut to play the current song from the beginning, thing which i used to do quite a bit 2) tab order seems a little bit messed up; i'd expect the first elements to be focused to be the search fields, since there are shortcuts to play the next song, the previous, stop, and whatever else, pressing tab on the main window should focus the search fields to allow users to quickly browse their collection/playlist thing which they can't do with shortcuts.. actually tab on main windows focuses in this order: collection search field, Ok but i have some osservations: default shortcuts for seek actions are left and right, which also seem to be the only keys to expand and collapse and item in the collection list! i consider these default shortcuts 'bad' meaning they should be changed to something else. collection item list, in my opinion useless: users would have typed something in the collection search field if they wanted to search for something.. no? playlist itself, this makes a little more sense.. but i think it should be focused after the playlist search field itself, because that's where user would want focus if they wanted to search for something to play. and being all of the other possible actions performable with shortcuts that would be most often the reason to popup the main window in the first place. volume control, there are plenty of ways of controlling volume.. im a little surprised, the playlist search field which i consider the most important control on that window doesn't get focused at all !! 3) again we talk about the playlist search field. pressing enter while it has focus does nothing! back in the 1.4x times to browse my playlist and play something in particular i just had to popup the main window, press tab twice, type what i was looking for and then press enter, voilà! the song was playing, and the search field cleared by itself: easy, fast, logical, superb. now the search field doesn't get focused at all so i have to click on the search field, type, manually select with mouse(or by pressing arrow keys) the track i want to play and clear the search field.. it takes me twice the time.. 4) shortcuts for 'queue track', and 'stop after playing this track' are still missing. menu entries to 'repeat track' should also be provided. 5) is it me or repeat track just won't work? i select playlist->repeat->track random is off. song is not repeated! 6) when random is on, 'previous track' control should play the previous song anyway. the 'next track' should be used to play another random track. that's something to begin with. it would be great if these things could be implemented, even alongside of what is currently implemented, without stripping anything.. where possibile. regards |

Thanks for the suggestions.
Please check if any of those are not already in the wishlist on Bugzilla: http://tinyurl.com/wishlist2assigned and please, file a wish for each item that is not already reported there. Since the developers hardly find time to check the forum for suggestions, the wishlist on Bugzilla is the place to to report to. And please, one single item per wish.

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |
