You mean gap-less playback I presume. This should work with ogg and flac, but might not work with some mp3 files, due to the file structure. You can avoid the worst gaps by activating fadeout in the playback settings.
Assuming you talk about Amarok 2.x. Please don't forget to state your version when asking questions
Running Kubuntu 22.10 with Plasma 5.26.3, Frameworks 5.100.0, Qt 5.15.6, kernel 5.19.0-23 on Ryzen 5 4600H, AMD Renoir, X11
FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

Actually Fade-out does nothing in this respect, it's only used when you press Stop.
Could be that the user meant Crossfading, not Gapless. Crossfading is not yet fully implemented in Amarok 2.2.x, due to missing components in Phonon.

Hi!
I have found several threads in this forum regarding gapless playback but i find none answering my problem. I use amarok 2.2.1.90 (from the opensuse 11.2 repository) with KDE 4.3.4 and i play ogg files (192 kb/s). Still there is a gap between the songs (it' s not much, maybe 1/10 second, but it' s still very well audible). How can i make Amarok - as the thread title says - switch smoothly between songs? I tried both gstreamer and xine, the problem is with both backends. Thanks in advance, Hauke |

Ok, i see now Amarok doesn't support real gapless Playback - is there any Linux Player that CAN do it? Doesn't have to be as multifunctional as Amarok with collection scanner and stuff, just a playlist will do. QT/KDE preferred...
Thanks in advance |

Amarok does in fact support Gapless Playback, with one restriction:
It will never work perfectly with MP3, due to limitations of the format (see Wikipedia for detailed info). But with OGG Vorbis and such it should work fine.

Hm...strange...it doesn't work for me.
I am both 100% sure that the songs are encoded as .ogg, also that the ogg-files don't have a silence at their end/beginning (what can happen while ripping). I just checked it in audacity. But the gap IS there - it is pretty small (1/10 second) but it's there and it's annoying... So - what can i do about it? Do i have to activate it somewhere in amarok? [edit]I just downloaded mozilla songbird: Gapless playback works there perfectly (only tried .ogg, dunno about .mp3) so it's not my soundcard or the processor or something like that. But i really like Amarok...Please don't leave me hanging here |

Nevermind it, i use foobar2000 with wine now - uses less processor&memory and is faster than amarok. So thanks for not helping me
