Hi google01103,
well for the moment there is no filtering but it might be a nice feature too
my next move will be to enable to play/queue albums by either double click or a play symbol
I'm having troubles with the album label positionning which might be even bigger a problem since I'd like to add a rating widget as well

Hi again,

Just to let you know that I submitted a merge request for my coverflow applet yesterday.
everything seems pretty stable so far :
1. Clicks on the right & left of the central album move resp. forwards & backwards. Mouswheel enabled as well
2. double click on an album empties playlist& play the whoel album
3. Album title, artist & average track rating are displayed under the central album
Other ideas more than welcome, but it seems OK to me as astart.
Do you think this could make it to 2.3 ?

Manu, we are currently in feature and string freeze since 3 weeks, 2.3 is normally to be tagged next week and release a few days later, so I am afraid it is too late for 2.3 :(

But, since we have a rather short release cycle of about 6-7 weeks, it will make it into 2.3.1 :)

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ...

Hi again,

Now that the coverflow has been implemented, what about a flat cover grid view ?
Although I like the flow thingy a lot, I still think a wall of tiny album covers would be handy...
Do you think this should be a new applet on its own, or should it be just a way to customize the "albums" applet we already have (and which looks just great already) to have more than 1 column and no expandable tree ?

Sounds like you are talking about the Cover Manager. Tools > Cover Manager.

well, it'd look like the cover manager for sure, but
1/ as an applet
2/ dedicated to collection browsing & play albums
maybe this means that the cover manager & the albums view should be merged into a single applet ?

So it seems to me CoverBling fits well, if search is added. It is an applet, and it is dedicated to collection browsing & play albums (although the context menu may need some love). Filtering won't work because it presents albums as a flow of items instead of a list or grid.

The collections browser should not be changed. It is good for filtering / finding what you want quickly with the ability to use clever syntax to narrow things down. Plus it can show the album cover should you want it to.

The cover manager has some areas to improve for sure. But they are related to fetching covers. It's main use is for people to mass fetch album covers when they first install Amarok. Of course it can be used however the user wishes to, but being a separate dialog from the main window (especially the playlist) it would be clunky if used for managing playback. So the widget for this purpose should be in the music sources pane or the context view (more appropriate); this leads us to CoverBling.

Perhaps in the future a "cover grid" applet can be added. I'm thinking it should be integrated within CoverBling itself so that you can choose a flow mode or grid mode, while keeping it looking awesome.

Done !

I added a very basic search bar in the coverbling applet
clicking on the icon toggles between album/artist search
1/ album search

2/ artist search
http://fr.tinypic.com/view.php?pic=2evgu3m&s=5

Currently a merge request...

Wow, this is looking great! I'm glad more people share the idea that a more visual approach to finding stuff from the collection would be a good idea.

Cover Bling will also be very nice for publicity! I'm also really psyched that maybe someday there'll be a "cover grid" view as well...

@Manuw2009 - whatever became of your merge request for simple search in Cover Bling (viewtopic.php?f=121&t=83821&p=153387&hilit=cover+bling#p153152)? I'm running 2.3git (amarok-2.3.0.80svn20100518-14.1) and it's not there.

That's because of the current feature and string freeze, it will have to wait until after 2.3.1, sorry. But that's only 1 more week :)

Hi,

I just noticed that the applet has been put to "playground".
I understand this is because of the current debate (should we do something new etc...especially because of Apple's patent).
However, how do I compile with playground (cmake option ?) if I still want to use it ?
Does anyone know how to activate playground compilation on top of a regular git user-home compilation ?
Thanx very much

Go in the playground folder, it has a CMake file and compile it from there.
