Hi all,
is there a script for amarok which allows you to store ratings, tags, maybe cover art, ... directly inside the audio files (mp3 in my case) ? This would enhance the interoperability of amarok with other players, just as digikam does it with image files. Or is there an option in amarok itself with this functionality which I have missed? Best, Zsaja |

Hm, the id3 tags allow you to write all sort of information into the file container that is mp3. I am a bit surprised you ask since Amarok makes extensive use of the id3 tags, it even relies on those to build a collection.
You can click on any track in the collection browser and edit the tags, or, if you have many files to tag, use a mass tagging application like kid3 or easytag. Currently Amarok doesn't retrieve cover art or lyrics from the tags, that is not yet implemented, but pretty much all the rest is already there. As for the ratings, I don't think you can exchange ratings since those are not stored in the tags, but in the database.

FWIW: it's always useful to state the exact Plasma version (+ distribution) when asking questions, makes it easier to help ... |

I am basically concerned with ratings, cover art, lyrics - precisely the stuff which is usually not stored in the mp3 itself. I would like to have all information in the files so that I can move them to a different computer without any loss of information.

Well, as I said, you can store all things supported by the id3 standard:
http://www.id3.org/ and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ID3 Currently Amarok just doesn't read the embedded lyrics and cover, the function is not implemented yet, but that shouldn't prevent you from adding what you want to the tags. Again, Amarok is not meant for mass tagging, you can use external tagging software for that.

i think he wants a script that would take lyrics, covers and ratings FROM amarok and put them in ID3 custom fields.
You are saying, quite correctly, that amarok does not currently read lyrics and cover from tags, he wants to write the lyrics and covers retrieved by amarok into the tags It sounds like something fairly trivial to script, if you know the db structure and the proper ID3 fields to use... but as far as i know, there's currently no way to do this within amarok. |

I totally agree with zsaja's problem.
With Amarok 1.4, I was able to do that for cover art and lyrics. For covers, no plugin was needed with 1.4. This functionnality was dropped in 2.x, but it may come back I hope. For lyrics, I used "lyrics from ID3" (http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.ph ... tent=49274) which is not compatible with amarok 2 It's a very good plugin, working out of the box for mp3. For FLAC, we must use a custom field "LYRICS", since there is no standard for that in FLAC. The plugin can read but not write this field in flac files, so you must use another tool for that (Kid3 for exemple). That's the best solution I found until now... not perfect cause you have to use several tools, but the result is exactly what I want. Maybe I will switch back from amarok 2 to 1.4 for that (and version 2 is so slow with my old laptop). Note : for general tagging of standard fields and covers, I use EasyTAG. |
