I hate posting simple questions like this, but I'm totally stumped here.

Installed Amarok v2.3 today. My Sony Walkman shows up under Local Collection just fine (mtp). I can even make a playlist of songs from the device.

HOWEVER, I cannot for the life of me figure out how to send music TO the music player. In Amarok v1.4 you'd simply right-click on the file and choose Transfer to device (paraphrasing). Then you'd go to the device and right click on the queued files and choose being transfer. I see none of that in the newer version of Amarok.

I've checked the forums. I've checked the wiki. I've even checked YouTube for a video someone may have posted, but see absolutely nothing, which is why I'm here.

Perhaps something as basic as this should be in the docs somewhere? If it is please point me in the right direction because I sure didn't see it when looking.

Have you tried simply right-clicking on the files and selecting copy to collection, and then choose your device? It isn't as fast as transferring a bunch at one time, but work is ongoing.

Nope, hadn't tried that.

I guess when I saw the phrase "copy to collection" I was thinking of the collection as being the collection on my computer. Unfortunately, there is no copy to collection when you right-click on the podcast listing (I'm assuming I have to locate the actual downloaded file in this case?), and what's strange is that when I try transfering an .ogg file it tells me it can't do that because the file is already on the player, which it isn't.

Not sure if the fact the player doesn't support .ogg has anything to do with that. However, in the past I was generally able to transfer files anyways, regardless of whether the device could play them or not.

Glad to hear that work is ongoing. That was one of the features which seemed pretty robust in Amarok v1.4.x and it kind of amazes me that there have been at least four versions of v2.x which have been released without a pretty rudimentary feature from an older version.

Best Wishes,

Robert

I don't know the status of podcast transfer, but that is definitely on the "todo" list. 1.4 had transcoding, and we should soon have that too, when the Phonon-VLC backend is ready to rock. Soon, soon!
