Large Music Collections

Mon Nov 15, 2010 7:58 am
okay here is a suggestion, as I'm now extremely annoyed at the lack of capability to cope with a large music collection, that any music player has to offer to date. I have used Ubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Kubuntu and all of them have failed to operate when a target size is reached.

Exaile failed at my collection expanding more than 10,000 tracks.
Amarok has failed at my collection expanding more than 16,000 tracks.
Kaffein has yet to be tested.

Does anyone have a solution or a link to a real music program?

Cheers people...

I have 20K tracks in Amarok, and that's small compared to many of the developers. What difficulties are you encountering?

I'm getting duplication, missing ID3 data, incorrect albums under artist, missing tracks...
I can't locate the Amarok database to manually edit details myself. it could be manageable if I knew where I could locate the database its all stored in...

howlshigh, some of our developers are working right now on amarokcollectionscanner, and it sounds like you could give them some very valuable feedback. Can you come into #amarok on Freenode, or write to the Amarok-devel list with your experience, and offer to do some testing?

https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/amarok-devel

Are you up for building Amarok from source? If so, here is your guide:

what version of Amarok are you using? I have 23,000 tracks and I'm not noticing any issues such as the ones you are encountering

fyi 2.3.2 is available for Kubuntu http://www.kubuntu.org/news/amarok-232-backports-ppa

I'm using Amarok 2.3.0 on KDE 4.4.2

Will go to freenode and do what I can to help, but have thought that changing my Kernal to a higher latency might help increase the ability to crunch the data so to speak...

I've just update to Amarok 2.3.2, and it seems the problem has resolved itself and scanned the collection faster, guess it was a bug that needed fixing in the newer version.

Thanks for all your help ladies and gents.

That's quite an old version of Amarok. There have been a lot of improvements since then; I'm not sure information that old will help much. Definitely worth upgrading.

it seems my system proves a little tedious for anything newer than 10.04 at the moment, but after I have looked a the verbose mode boot up I shall resolve or return with more complications...

Thanks people...
