I was wondering if the duplicate brush was able to sample something different than it's current layer.
For example may I create an empty layer above the image layer and sample from it. This way I may reverse my retouches just by erasing the contents of the layer. does anyone know something about it? |

No, duplicate always works inside the same layer.
You could use a clone layer with mask instead. |

We could try to figure out a way to clone from another layer -- but it'll probably be a while before we have time to implement that!

Yes, currently that's the way to do it. Being able to clone only what you need is just a mater of sparing time. And to prevent from copying redundant information burdening the system's ram. |

Maybe when the part on the multilevel texture painting for 3D comes up this topic may be discussed.

Feel free to noodle about requirements and so on in this thread.
