I'ma beginner with Ubuntu and I do not understand much: <. could someone explain to me how it is done please.
I put it in the console but I find no krita: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:neon/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install project-neon-base project-neon-calligra project-neon-calligra-dbg What should I do with this? : ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports Sorry for my questions seem a little silly perhaps, but I know nothing about linux. thank you Kargall |

Hi!
If you use *buntu 12.04 or 11.10, you don't need project neon -- it would be best to use the normal packages. In 12.04, which was released last month, you can just do apt-get install krita That should work out of the box. In 11.10 sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports apt-get install krita should work. |

Hi Kargall,
As boud told you if you want to use the 2.4 stable release on Ubuntu 12.04, best is to use the package in ubuntu repository, no need for a ppa (so now you should remove the packages you installed from neon ppa, disable the repository usin synaptic package manager (is still the best graphical interface for package management in my opinion). Then just install krita. In case if you want to use development version, you can use the script on the specific thread of the forum. It's quit easy to use, and if you encounter problems you can get some help for sure PS: welcome on GNU/linux |

Hey Kargall, Welcome to Linux. At first you'll probably experience little problems as I read. But keep good. Your problem come from you use the 11,10 version witch is outdated and so have 2.3 in repository. You better have to install the 12.04 (current) I did a blog post recently on how to get the last version if you want to test the development, it's written for Kubuntu witch is easy for Windows users : http://www.davidrevoy.com/article116/ku ... tall-notes But also work for Ubuntu main edition with the Unity desktop, or Xubuntu , etc...etc... Good luck with it ! |

is the current ubuntu working alright for you?
what i heard people had lot of trouble with wacom pressures for example. pressure and dual monitor setups. i've been holding back the upgrade because i have fully working system.. wacom swaps between two monitors, pressure, correct coordinates... 3d (blender) works fantastic with nvidia drivers.. and also sound, which i read some people lost during upgrade. so i'm still on natty. and compiling krita from the sources using compiler script found on these forums. I'm using Ubuntu Studio 12.04 and everything works terrifically -- Cintiq, audio, compiled Krita, etc.

Same for me, (K)ubuntu 12.04 working flawlessly on my desktop and laptop.
I've heard people having troubles with wacom only because of too new intuos5 models which support isn't arrived yet apparently, but that's often the problem with too recent hardware, not really ubuntu-specific (same for some other pieces like very new or exotic GPUs that support isn't perfect…) But if everything works with your 11.10 setup, it's likely to be ok on 12.04 too. |

Intuos 5 support is in the latest wacom drivers, they just aren't packaged with Ubuntu yet.

Indeed Brett, that's what I meant (but it was probably not clear in my words… should have said "isnt arrived yet in official repositories")… Thanks for the precision

Yes OK! thank you friends
it works very well with version 12.04. And what a nice surprise, Krita is very beautiful in Ubuntu, and more fluid (does it seem). Now I no longer install the Cintiq 12WX . I hope not to suffer too. thank you again Kargall |

Hey Kargall,
Does the Cintiq 12mx is Intuos5 generation based ? I had a 12WX by the past , and I know how to install this sort of screen/tablet Cintiq device on Linux ( I have the 21UX now ). If you can , connect to IRC using the Krita website http://krita.org/chat , and I will help in private channel in french. |

Do you mean 12wx? It should work out of the box in Ubuntu 11.04+. I used to use one in 11.04 without needing to install drivers (21UX also works, using in 12.04 with no issues).
