Things missing in krita

Sat May 19, 2012 12:30 am
Hi i want to say every time i post something this is not to critisize but to help the project and hope this is construtctive. ;)

I've post a drawing made on krita and i've notice some tools missing who 'll be great to add.
- a navigator or a small view of the image, because it help to see the picture in small size to see if the drawing is clear even from distance. Sure we can also zoom back but it take less time to have a quick look on the side of your screen.
- i work on animation movie so sometimes i make textures and it has to loop. So it will be great to have a "tool" who loop the layer then we can draw to make the texture really looping.
- Layer multiple selection. In krita you're constraint to merge layer by layer it will be great to have the choice to select many layers at the same time and merge it. Also to have the possibility to merge all the layers. And to be able to make a new layer based on what the image show on the top of the layers.
- a selection tools is missing. A selection where you draw the outline of the selection. Krita as one i've never seen before the select by brush. it's interesting but not precise enough (for me).
- on the brush preference or preset there is no random for the moment. So the shape of the brush when you paint look always the same. It's to bad because all the other things to create a new brush are just amazing. With the curves it really is a revolution for the pen sensivity.

For the moment that's all but i'm sure i'll find something else. Thanks four work hard work team Krita! ;)

- yes, we once had a bird-view in the overview docker, but that was removed when porting to KDE 4. It's planned to bring it back at some point, but so far no work has been done on that yet. As a workaround you can use a second view (View->New view) and put that on another screen if you have one.
- we currently don't have that, but someone will be working on it in this years Google Summer of Code.
- we tried multiple layer selection, but that never really worked out as it complicates the user interaction a lot. For now Krita is limited to single selection
- the is a selection by outline tool, after the select by brush there is polygonal outline and then the normal outline
- random is called "fuzzy"

I'm starting a new drawing i found an other thing who's missing. A move tool. for the moment there's only a way i found it's to use the transform tool. but this is not fast to use. maybe is it possible to make a move tool with an hold key like the hand but for the layer or selection.

Krita does have a move tool, but I disabled it on windows because it's too slow!

cool, hope it will be added later ;)
too bad i can't continue my drawing on krita because of the smooth line i talking about in the brush idea post. just not enough precise for the moment but i'm sure in a few version of krita there is good chance i will use it. Do you have a newsletter just for the release of new versions of the soft? if not i will check sometimes.

I've noticed that the "overview docker" has two things missing that you usually see in gimp and ps.

1. Zoom in and zoom out feature.
2. A hand grab tool to adjust the position of screen to the desired zoomed in/out area.

I had missed the selection type where you draw the outline of the selection as well and that's a crucial tool! I think those icons are little unclear. Also the description "select an area by it's outline". I'm not sure that's clear. Doesn't that need to somehow describe that you are freehand drawing the outline of the selection?
