I could reproduce that as well -- I only tested git master, not 2.6.0. Do you know whether that version also has the problem?

I just installed 2.6 and problem with constant drawing persist in this version as well. Undo is working for me in 2.6 but only if it is not blocked by this constant stylus connection to tablet (I have to click with mouse to break that stylus "connection"). Also when I duplicate layer I cant paint on it.

Hi,
the 2.6 version is just arrived on kubuntu-ppa/backports !

I have a first bug (regression) :
with OpenGL enabled, I can't view the palette by middle click with the stylus.
When I disable the OpenGL, it comes back.
On 2.5, it was always OK (with or without OpenGL).

If needed, where can I report this bug elsewhere ?

Right. The duplicate layer problem is known, and really hard to reproduce. I'm trying to build krita with a different compiler to see whether it works better then. If the line problem is also in 2.6, then it cannot be anything to do with the new line smoothing, it must be something in the input manager... I'll try to get Dmitry on irc tomorrow to discuss the issue.

Appreciate your hard work brother. I just find out that Manga Studio under Windows is pretty good Krita alternative - but IT IS NOT KRITA (and its $75 ;))
So keep up the good work and I will keep on checking it. Good luck, let us know when you have something to test.

Great job on the windows build, :) it looks so great and I like the new Icon. I don't have the continuous line problem or the clone layer crash, but, like mentioned already I can't draw on duplicate layers. I haven't tested much, but I like the fixes done already. Much faster load up time and the flipbook addition looks cool. Thanks for not giving up on windows and for the hard work on this sir. ;D

Any news on this?

If a dot appears when you start the stroke, when you finish it you will get the continuous line problem. I'm not sure what causes the dot to appear...

I too noticed a similar problem once, but I thought it was due to the low processing speed of my old PC,which stucks continuosly. So I thought it is system specific problem and so I didnt reported this before.I thought let me try krita on my new tablet(delivery expected tomorow) and if problem persists there on Windows 8,I would file as bug.

I have only seen this happen on Windows. I spent all weekend trying to find the cause, but haven't succeeded yet.

I wonder is windows really so cr appy or is just different philosophy of doing things and when you get a grip on it everything will be easier. I mean I still remember moment when you were not even sure if windows can have properly working Krita skins and now not only you made it but it looks brilliant. I hope this will be the case with other bugs as well. Good luck!

Well, Windows is closed-source, so it could be much harder to trace the problems?

I like to think of it this way though: when the devs are building on Linux, it's like they're building in a Western workshop with all the tools they need. When they try to port it to Windows, it's like trying to tell a Chinese factory how to build it instead, and said factory is missing tools and components (libraries), so the devs have to figure out which ones then try to bring those over as well. And then there are the language problems. xD (not to say it's impossible, it just Can't be pleasant to do)

Hi everyone,

Valerievk wrote:

Interesting comparison indeed ;D

Joking aside, I agree with Valerievk in that I think Windows is quite simply MUCH different compared to Linux.

In my view, It is not necessarily most "difficult" to work on Windows for a developer (compared to Linux).
Photoshop, for instance, runs smoothly on Windows (the same applies to AutoCAD, ArcGIS etc) :)
None of these commercial applications run natively on Linux...

Regarding Krita 2.6, in essence, I think the biggest problem concerning Windows is the lack of resources both in terms of time and in the number of developers available to work on it.

Actually, in my view, this last problem occurs quite often with other Linux open source softwares as well: it suffices to take a look at MyPaint or Darktable just to name a few.
MyPaint 1.1 doesn't have yet a version available for Windows [1].
Darktable developers have never been available to work on porting their application to Windows [2].
Kdenlive, which is by far my best preferred open source software to do video editing on Linux, doesn't work on Windows either [3].

All in all, I think Krita 2.6 is behaving "pretty well" on Windows now.
No doubt, Krita 2.6 is NOT perfect on Windows (there are still many bugs to solve) but, again, in my opinion, this is mostly due to the lack of developers and of time available to fix them.

Re: Krita 2.6 released

Just yesterday Evening,I got delivery of Fujitsu Lifebook T902 Convertible Tablet PC in Bangalore,India.
The big screen of 13.3 inch makes it very easy to use.

However this heck is a big problem:

Krita refuses to open any existing or new file even of a small size.It just shuts down.

I don't think that this is a problem with system. It easily opens GIMP and trial versions of Artwearer which tackle large size images of 24000 * 11500 very easily.
It's already very powerful and a new model.
It's core i7 3.6 GHZ (Turbo) processor with 8GB basic primary RAM and with 500 GB of total Harddisk.

I uninstalled and again reinstall Krita 2.6 on this brand new windows 8 pro system, but still was not able to draw a single line on Krita, because no file would open.....!!!!!!!!!

I guess you have to do your car designs in GIMP then. Good luck.
Try also truck designing. Or planes. It will be fun if you try to use 1:1 scale on your BIG 13.3'' screen.
Happy growing up in Bangalore, India. Must be fun.

PS. Maybe you should add bit more exclamation signs and BOLD letters?!?!?!?!?!?! That should help your case.
