Why... what's this?

Why yes, it IS the new layers docker! Merged into master, with multi-layer manipulation, arbitrary color coding and filter for colors!

It is worth it to check out the phabricator discussion around this fella.

Has anything been added to layer docker for easy deletion of layers?, such as drag to recycle bin, or hovering over/selecting the layer and hitting the delete key?

Hi nharmony,

A shortcut for deleting layer is added in 3.0 - 'Shift + Delete' deletes the selected layers.

There used to be a task on phabricator about stacked brushes that seems to have gone, is it no longer achievable?

No, boudewijn wanted to do it, so he ran off with it: https://phabricator.kde.org/T124 :)
Here's the branch: https://phabricator.kde.org/diffusion/K ... ked-brush/

Basically, the state right now is: There's a gui, the brush save and load, and you can paint with two brush as the same time, but there's no masking of one brush with the other yet, and then we entered bug-fix phase.

Vector Graphics

Sat Aug 13, 2016 6:31 am
They put out a Xara Linux version that was open source but development stalled and I don't even think it runs anymore on current versions of Linux. Perhaps Krita should look into grafting Xara into in since both are open source. It seems like it might save an awful lot of time.

No, the Xara code is pretty much unusable. We looked into it when we started working on KOffice 2.0 and wrote all the shared vector objects and had to dismiss it. They also kept the page telling us about the source code, but it seems the tarball itself is gone: http://www.xaraxtreme.org/Developers/de ... lding.html -- but well, this was 2008, of course, so it would have been ancient.

Okay, I took a look again this morning, I found a clone on github. It doesn't build of course -- it needs wxWidgets 2.6, and the current version of wxWidgets, 2.8 irrc) is source incompatible. I can also understand why nobody ever really made use of the code. It's huge, there is no design documentation, it's full of the kind of idiosyncracies you get in in-house developed code -- and it's ten years old. Lots has changed since then!

It looks like someone has recently tried to make a library out of xara: https://github.com/Neonking/XaraVG-lib -- but it's very undocumented -- and there isn't even a build system!

I'm not too satisfied with the HUD for the brush options being lumped in with the pop-up palette. I'd be more comfortable with the options being right under my cursor, rather than having to move right first. I propose having it on its own shortcut, separate from the pop-up palette.

I like it right by the pop-up palette, as now I don't have to remember another shortcut. I also don't have a keyboard some of the time with my tablet, so making it a shortcut will make the feature disappear for me.

As we add more things to this popup palette, it might be good to have it be customized more with what is shown and where. It sounds like you change brush settings more than you change brushes or colors. Maybe a future option could be to change the position so the brush settings can be right under your cursor instead of the color and brush selections.
